Bangkok National Museum
Bangkok National Museum occupies part of the former Front Palace, once the residence of the uparaja or vice-king, beside Sanam Luang. Its collections provide one of the clearest introductions to Thailand's archaeology, religious art, court culture and regional artistic traditions. Major sections move from prehistoric material through Dvaravati, Srivijaya, Lopburi, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods, making the museum especially useful near the beginning of a longer Thailand trip. The Buddhaisawan Chapel and the Phra Buddha Sihing image give the historic compound significance beyond its display cases, while the royal funeral chariot hall explains the craftsmanship and ritual purpose of vehicles used in royal cremation ceremonies. Buildings and galleries may rotate or close independently, so visitors should check current notices rather than assuming every room is available. The collection is extensive: choose priority galleries or allow several hours instead of attempting a hurried circuit.
